FOTB 07 - Day 1
Seb Lee-Delisle-AS3 Particle Effects - Now 1000% Extra FREE
What a better way to start the day than Seb’s shiny particles. Knowing Seb (Plug-in Media) from FlashBrighton, he’s a really cool guy, and I wouldn’t miss this sparkly session! Not being a developer wasn’t a problem with Seb going step by step through the code, so I will definitely try and play around with the possibilities of the particle engine.(Seb’s Blog)
Chris Orwig-Story. Branding. Visual design.

After Seb’s session I chose to see Chris Orwig. Chris Orwig is a freelance interactive designer, developer, photographer, and digital media faculty member at the Brooks Institute of Photography.. He gave a talk about branding and showed some of his beautiful work. He did give something to think about…”A novelist says in 20000 words what a poet does in 20”…And he showed than a photographer can even say more just with one picture.
Carole Guevin-Self Promotion
I thought of attending this session, as the ones happening at the same time, seemed to be aimed to programmers than designers. While I really enjoyed Carole’s honest and straightforward talk about how people should promote their work, I wished I had challenged myself and went to Keith Peters session “Make Flash Games. Retire Early”.
John Grden-Papervision3D CS3 Component - get er’ done!
And this is what I did with choosing to attend John’s session. Papervision3D is an open source 3D engine for the Flash platform. I was amazed with what this component can do, and how easy (even for a designer) it is to play around with 3d in flash.
Joshua Davis-Dynamic Abstraction
OK..I had an idea of what to expect before going to this session, but it really was a mind blowing experience! Joshua Davis is an amazing speaker. His session was the greatest of the day…A motivational/inspirational presentation including beautiful abstracts. What amazed me more than these abstracts was the actual process behind the art. You can also see his work at Flickr
Brendan Dawes-If it aint broke - break it!

That was the last session of the day, where Brendan talked about breaking the “default” and getting away with it. He ‘s a funny speaker, but have to say that the best part was when DJ GKUT performed live, using Brendan’s video scratching application.
